Verification of Payee (VoP): what changes from 9 October 2025
Starting 9 October 2025, a new EU regulation – Regulation (EU) 2024/886, the Instant Payments Regulation – will make Verification of Payee (VoP) mandatory for EUR payments within the Eurozone.
VoP adds an important layer of security: before your payment is processed, the system checks whether the beneficiary’s name matches the IBAN. This helps reduce fraud and increases trust in every transaction.
How it works
When you create a payment, you’ll see one of three results:
- Exact match – Everything’s correct. You can proceed as usual.
- Close match – Review the details and decide whether to correct or continue.
- No match / not possible to verify – You can still proceed, but at your own responsibility.
Even if the names don’t match exactly, the payment will not fail – you’ll simply be notified of the mismatch before confirming.

Batch payments
To keep bulk payments running smoothly, VoP will not apply by default to batch payment files. You can opt back in anytime if you want the extra verification layer.
If you remain opted out, please note that Guru Pay won’t be liable if funds are sent to an incorrect beneficiary due to mismatched name or IBAN details.
Does this apply to all currencies?
VoP applies to all SEPA Credit Transfers (both standard SCT and SCT Instant). Payments in other currencies are not covered by this regulation.

What’s next
You don’t need to take any action – VoP will be automatically enabled for all your single EUR payments starting 9 October 2025.
